The Recovery of his Majesty in the Year 1789 by Benjamin West, The Royal Collection, England.

West was born in Phliadelphia and was largely self-taught, although he did study painting. He was a friend of Benjamin Franklin, whose portrait he painted and eventually moved to England to paint for King George III who is pictured here. Don't you love the heavens shining as the he returns to the throne.

Thank you to all who sent along their good wishes I am recovering and am doing very well.

Martha, I'm just a drop-in visitor who didn't want to comment on your need to take a break, but I'm happy to see you back. For the record, my start-up routine is: (1)Washington Post headlines, read paper over the AM while waiting for people to get to the phone, make meetings, etc., (2) ditto NY Times, (3) Ditto WSJ, (4) Astronomy Picture of the Day, (5) Your Daily Art, (6) Poetry Daily, (7) Verse Daily. That covers 30 minutes Or so on a day without critical news, and on which none of you "Daily" folks brings me up short with a compelling entry, so I allocate an hour.

Take good care of your health. All the best,

Bill Carr
