Life Death, Knows Doesn't Know, 1983 by Bruce Nauman, Private Collection.

Neon words flash on and off in this piece. It references the conflicted nature of life. Words have been included in art since the beginning of time.

I have a friend who was criticized by a professor at Kent State University (Main Campus) for using letters and words in some of his art.

I hope he does not limit the scope of his expression because of one opinion.

Nope, he didn't let that affect him then. Although, he no longer does art, but web development stuff there in the Cleveland area. He was going to Kent in the early to mid 90's.
