Primavera

Spring, c.1470/80 by Sandro Botticelli, Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence.

The subjects in this Renaissance painting are mythological - Venus, the Three Graces, Cupid, etc. However later in his career Botticelli fell under the influence of the powerful priest Savonarola and stopped painting scenes based on the ancient myths.

Hi!
I really like your website, but I was wondering if you could post the date that each painting was started/finished along with the other information. I haven't studied some of theses works, and it would be nice to immediately put a time-reference to each piece.
Thanks for creating such a neat site, and have a good day.

Thank you, I have been considering whether or not to include the date of the work for quite a while, now I certainly will.

I believe Botticelli also burned some of his paintings due to the influence of Savonarola. What a waste. -L
